Alana Newell

My name is Alana, an illustrator and Art Psychotherapist based in the South East of England. I have a BA in Fine Art from Falmouth University and an MSc in Art Psychotherapy from Belfast School of Art.

Being an Art Psychotherapist means I get to spend my days with the art and stories of others. I’m surrounded by clay and paint and buttons and feathers and I love it. I love the way that people share little pieces of themselves in the things they make and I strive to hold each one with care and kindness. Similarly, in my own artwork, my drawings are little emblems of me. They would sound just like me if they could talk.

I’ve been drawing myself out of wobbles for as long as I can remember. It feels as though I can fix things through drawing, write myself into the page so that I live there and not in my head. Sometimes I want to be the girl on the page, and sometimes its a part of me that I don’t like. But either way, they’re my girls, they’re little pocket rockets of imaginal medicine because they show me where I’ve been or where I want to go. I love that I get to share them here and hope that other people might spot the medicine in them too, maybe finding a little piece of themselves in the characters or the wibbly wobbly lines.

Please do get in contact if you have any questions for me, I’d absolutely love to hear from you! And if you fancy getting your hands on any art prints or original drawings then head on over to my shop //
